1956
In 1936 Jiang Chun-xuan was born in Hunan (the province of Mao Ze-dong’s home). As his family was poor, Jiang went to a factory to become a worker before graduating from junior middle school. He studied literature in his spare time, hoping to become a spare time writer. Later, one of his friends hoped that they could both enter the university. His friend aimed literature subjects. Jiang’s had a strong Hunan dialect causing him not to speak mandarin very well, so he decided to study in industrial subjects. Jiang spent only 45 days to self-study the senior middle school subjects before attending the university entry exams, and was accepted by the Beijing Aviation Institute (now the University of Aeronautic and Astronautic Science and Technology).

1956-1961
Jiang studied aircraft technics, and later switched to aviation instrumentation engineering. He started his studies on Si function in his spare time at the Beijing Aviation Institute. Jiang considers that if he then learnt about Fermat’s Last Theorem, he may have proved it in 1960.

Note: 1968, during the “Cultural Revolution”, this paper written by Jiang, was published on the “Jing Gang Shan” newspaper of Qinghua University in Beijing.Although imprinted with a lot of signs of the political streams at the time, this paper maintains the mathematical original thoughts of Jiang which he later further developed in his proof of Fermat’s last theorem (FLT).

Jiang returned from educational labor work in Northeast of China, at a friend Jin Liang-chao’s home learnt that there was a Fermat’s Last Theorem, found that there was a Fermat formula in super-plurals he studied when he was in the university, and thus decided to study the Fermat Last Theorem. Jiang read a lot of related papers in Chinese, English, Russian and German, following the approach by earlier researchers entered into a dead-ended lane.

Jiang Chun-xuan: The General Proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem
Abstract
The present paper it gives a new method about the general proof of Fermet’s last theorem, which is different to Kummer’s method.
In second section it introduces cyclic determent
(2.1)
where p is prime.
Lemma1. Eq (2.1) has an infinity of integer solutions,
In the remark at the end of this paper Jiang wrote: “The main result of this paper was completed inn 1993. This paper was rewritten with supplements in accordance to “Discussions On The General Proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem, revisions and supplements, May 1995”.”

Dear Dr. Chun-Xuan,
As promised, I have tried to help you to my best with your paper, but with the following understandings:
(1)    my assistance is strictly confidential;
(2)    upon completion of this paper, I have to submit it to referees for approval or rejection;
(3)    it is your paper, and, thus, my assistance is merely of suggstion-type, that is, you should decide whether you accept or reject my suggestions.
I enclose the draftings of Sections 1 and 3 with my recommendations. Section 2 on the mathematical part is absent. I strongly suggest that you complete this very important part of your paper with the assistance of a qualified mathematician in Peking, expert in number theory.
The mathematical maturity of this section will be a crucial element for approval or rejection of your paper. If this section 2 is perfect, the possibilities for approval of your paper are greatly increased.
On the contrary, if section 2 on the mathematical theorems is questionable, quite frankly, I see little possiblities for approval.

Dear Dr. Chun-Xuan,
The purpose of this letter is to invite you to contribute to the Journal of Scial and Biological Structures. The Journal has been in existence for some time.
Our basic goal is to provide the stimulus and forum for the publication of research about structures and processes in biological and social organizations. We hope to play a contributory role in fostering the emergence of hypotheses and theorecticla propositions about the dynamical properties of deep seated consitutional structures.
While this hope helps establish general guidelines it does not define contect; we expect most articles to deal with specific problems or findings. Some topics that seem relevant include: structures in relation to all aspects of human behaviour, e.g., lingustics, soclial structure, structure of the psyche; sombol formation; structure of religions and other belief systems; structural approaches in domains such as music, peotry, literature; agression, cooperation, hierarchy, conflict resolution; policy formation, decision theory priority and planning theory, stability, decay, coordination.
Wehave got this journal off to a good start and we would greatly appreciate your help in the next stage of development.

Dear Dr. Chun-Xuan,
Thank you for your letter of October 13 arrived this morning. I appreciated your approval of the editorial modifications of your paper.
As promised in my letter to you of September 18, 1979, I have submitted your paper for independent refereeing. A copy of the referee report is enclosed for your consideration.
….. I am attempting to have your paper published in the December issue of the HADRONIC JOURNAL. But, again, I can do it if and only if I receive a favourable approval and comments of our editorial review process. This December issue will be entirely devoted to the Proceedings of the SECOND WORKSHOP ON LIE-ADMISSIBLE FORMULATIONS, we held here from August 1 – 7, 1979. Durng this workshop we discussed considerably your paper, and several participants expressed interest in it. Therefore, I believe that your paper would qualify as a contributing paper to the workshop.
….. In conslusion, the report of the referee has been critical, but constructively critical. Please do not be discouraged, because this is a standard practice here. We review and criticize each other papers to achieve the best possible maturity of presentation and content. As a matter of fact you should be proud and happy of your efforts. Indeed, the referee was quite intrigued and interested. This occurs only when the paper has scientific value.
…I enclose copy of the Report of September 28, 1979 of Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in Standford, California, 94305 with the listing of your paper.
In relation to your paper “Coexistence theory …” I believe that it is better you send a copy to Stanford directly from Peking, because this paper is not under consideration in the Hadronic Journal.

Dear Dr. Jiang,
You will be pleased to know that the Proceedings of the Second Workshop on Lie-admissible Formulations are in print. Your article is part of the second volume of the proceedings, that of research. I enclose the table of contents, so that you can have an earliery reference of your article.
After due consideration, we decided to print your article in the form exactly as you approved it, plus a postcript indicating the references and the points raised by the referee. Indeed, we though that this was the best way to preserve th espirit of your paper as you desire it.
I will be happy to assist you in a period of study, so that you can bring your research capabilities to a maximum. To this effect, I have separately air mailed to you a complimentary copy of my monograph “Foundations of Theorectical Mechanics”, I, with
spminger-Verlag, and of “Lie-admissible approach to the hadronic structure”, I with the Hadronic Press. These general presentations should expose you to what I believe is the foundation of physics: the most general possible forces, and the anlytic methods for their treatment.
I would recommend you that you study these works and, in case you have any technical difficulty, please let me know, and I shall try my best. For your information, all available books in mechanics treat the case of the forces f = V/r. The first comrehensive treatments of more general forces are presented in these works.
After this physical background, I believe that you will be ready for more sphysticated theorectical treatments. I would like to recommend you, as next step, the study of the Proceedings of the Second Workshop. You will receive a complimentary copy of the two volumes as soon as available (within a few weeks), by air mail. The understanding of some parts of the proceedings will call for your previous study of nonassociative algebras. Please feel free to consdult with me in regards to the best way to use your time. I can recommend selected readings or you and assist you in finding them.
After that, I would be happy to mail you my volume II of “Foundations of …” and of “Lie-admissible approach …”. These two volumes will bring you mor edirectly into the confronation of the fundamental problems of contemporary physics which, in my view, are open at this moment, and thus open to nonincremental advances. In this way you can have a progressive exposure to the structure of hadrons.
I have great faith in you, in your intutition, and in your possibilities. However, my sincere advice to you is to delay the writing of additional papers, until you have acquired more technical and mathematical knowledge. In different words, I recommend that you keep accumulating your ideas, and then present htem after you are achieved more mathematicla and physical knowledge. I am happy to help you in this respect to my best.

Dear Dr. Jiang,
It was a great pleasure for me to receive your letter of January 25th. It is astonishing for me to find someone who is interested in these questions so far away. I’ma little bit puzzled about the results which you are getting, because I still get at least a noble gas character with our Hartree-Fock calculations for the lements 118 and 172. Element 226 is very questionable indeed. I must very much contradict to your opinion that the 5g shell does not exist. If you look to the excitation spectra of very heavy elements, you easily can see that electrons in the 5g and 6g shell are invloved. Where did you get this result from? I also do not understand, why a p shell should not be stable. Even if none of us is correct. I’m sure that at least for every very heavy system where a nucleus exists, nature produces a stable ground state electronic configuration. This is a very general physical statement, and this shows me that the non-existence of superheavy elements is not connected with any stability of the electron cloud. The non-existance is directly related to the stability of the nucleus and nothing else. This my opinion to this question, and it would be nice to see more details of your consideration.

Dear Dr. Jiang,
Thank you very much for your last letter of May 5th, 1980. From this letter I can imagine how hard it is for you to work in your country and do research. …
Nevertheless, I’m still very interested to see your newest results, although I still do not see what a prime number has to do with the electrons souround atom. If I may remind you it is well-known that 5g electrons exist in many, many atoms in excited states, so that I don’t see any reason why they could not exist in the groundstate of a very heavy atom.
Thank you very much again for your last letter.

Dear Dr. Chun Xuan,
On August 4 to 9 we had a quite intriguing Third Workshop in Lie-admissible Formulations here in the Boston area. We had some 15 pure mathematicians, an equal number of theoreticians and experimentalists.
The Proceedings witll be published in January 1981 (see enclosed material). I would like to invite you to publish a paper in these proceedings, as we did it for the Proceedings of the Second Workshop. I would be happy to assist you to my best for typing and linguistic editing of your paper.
Perhaps, you may contact: Professor Sun Ji, Department of Technical Physics, Peking University, Peking
In fact, we recently accepted papers by Professor Sun Ji in the Hardonic Journal which deal with the problem of the hadronic structure. His ideas are quite similar to our own, although they are different.
I am confident that an exchange of ideas between you and Prof. Sun Ji would be valuable for both.
P.S. We published your recent article in the June issue and a complimentary copy of the issue was mailed to you.

Dear Dr. Chun Xuan,
It is pleasure to recommend you Prossefor JIANG, CHUN-XUAN from the People’s Republic of China.
I had the opportunity of following for some time the research by Professor Jiang, Chun-xuan as editor of the Hadronic Journal. The submission of an initial article in 1979 was found by the referee of insufficient English style, but of excellent content. We therefore assisted Professor Jiang, Chun-Xuan in the editorial-linguistic control, and the paper was printed in Volume 3 of our Journal. Since that time, he has improved his English considerably and he has become a regular contributor to our Journal. One of the articles appreared in the Proceedings of the Second Workshop in Lie-admissible Formulations. This may give you an idea of the advanced nature of Professor Jiang, Chun-Xun intests and knowledge.
The several editorial exchanges also gave me the opportunity to correspond on personel grounds. I am under the impression that Professor Jiang, Chun-Xuan is a very nice person, with a high sense of scientific ethics (which is an unfortunate rarity in our western circles of research), as well as of respect of his fellow colleagues.
For these reasons I would like to recommend him to you most highly.

Prof. Hans J. Bremermann, Prof. Of Mathematics and Biophysics, University of California, Berkely, Editor, Journal of Mathematical Biology, letter to Jiang:
Dear Dr. Jiang:
Find enclosed your paper “The Application of ‘Stable Groups to Biological Structures” which you submitted for publication to the Journal of Mathematical Biology, together with a “postscript” which I receved on May 28.
I have consulted one of the foremost experts on biological structue and received the following reply:
“I can’t make heads or tails out of this paper. It appears to be a formal development of group-theorectic ideas and its connection to biology is preposterous, as far as I can tell. I can’t comment on its mathematical merits, but I can say that it has zero biological content and definetly should not be considered for publication in JMB.”
A second referee has the following to say:
“Fascination with prime numbers goes back more than 2000 years and Pythagorean philosophers have speculated about connections between prime numbers and the harmony of the universe. The problem is how to transcend mere speculation and how to establish solid theories that measure up to customeary standards of science. Here Dr. Jiang’s mauscript falls woefully short. It is pure speculation and devoid of any stematic development of the ideas presented.”
In veiw of these reports the Journal of Mathematical Biology is unable to publish your manuscript. Perhaps it may be possible to revise the manuscript, concentrating on the mathematical ideas and to publish these in a different journal.
I have also received your letter of May 30 concerning establishment of a new journal: “The prime principle and its application”, with Springer Vrlag as publisher. If you wish to persue this idea you should contact Sprinter Verlag directly. It is located in Heidelberg, West Germany.

Your name will be printed with an asterisk indicating “corresponding participant”. We have studied your paper and found it quite nice and well written. The paper will therefore be printed in the version you mailed me. The only possibility of modification rests on the title because it bears my name, and the Editorial Committee of the Conference might decide to change the title (only). If this decision will be made, I shall let you know.
I would like to recommend that you also prepare a two pages abstract/review of this paper as well as of the first you published in the HJ, for publication in the book of abstracts which will be delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the Conference at Orleans. …
Your other paper is in press in the HJ, in either the issue of October or that of December. In this way I keep my promise with you that the paper will be published this year (despite a considerable publication load of papers for the Journal).

I have read with considerable interest your past letters to me, your resume, and in fact, your manuscript “The Application of Stabel Group to Biologcal Structures”. You may not know that I was a student of Stanislaw Ulam in Combinatorial Mathematics. I not only read your manuscript myself, but I sent it to two other professors of mathematics specializing in algebra and combinatorics. We all had difficulty to understand it. I think much of the difficulty comes from the difference in the philosophical perspectives of our different cultures. I would like to understand your point of view better.
I think we could helop each other understand nature better. There are various approaches we could take. I would be pleased to be a member of the editorial council of the new journal on “prime principle”, which you propose founding, but I would like to understand better what your “prime principle” is. ...

On The Origin of Cancers
Abstract
One year ago I suggested that two principles in DNA and RNA, theprime number principle and the symmetrical principle, that every 4n+2=2p, where p is an odd prime number, can be interpreted as stable, but every 4n (n>1) system as unstable. These forms of cancers and commonly assumed to raise as the result of local changes in DNA and RNA sequences. The creation of cancer cell can be caused by change of promoter seqeunces. 4n base-pair sequence of promoter is abloe to produce the transformation cells. 8n base-pair sequencs of promoter is able to produce cancer cells. Recently Novak and Griffin also pointed out minimum viral sequence fo rhte induction of transformation, for example TTAAAATA, that is 8-bp. We believe that many unstable sequences induced cancers will be found in future biological experiements, for 8-bp, 16-bp, 24-bp, 32-bp …. It will provide cluses about the origin of cancer.

The Mathematical Models For DNA and RNA Segments
Abstract
Two years ago I suggested that two principles: 1. The prime number principle. A prime number is erreducible in the integers. It seems therefore natural to associate it with the most stable biological segment for example DNA and RNA segments. 2. Thesymmetrical prinicple. Themost stable configuration of two prime numbers is then stable and symmetrical base-pair segment in DNA and RNA. Recently it found 3-bp, 5-bp, 7-bp, 11-bp, 23-bp, 47-bp segments in biological experiemnts. We believe that 59-bp, 83-bp, 107-bp, 167-bp, 179-bp, 227-bp, 263-bp … are found in future biological experiements. Above two principels associated with the biological experiments will be further understood mmolecular structure of genes and evolution process and be discovered some news. 4n (n>1) base-pair segment of promoter is able to produce the transforming cells, 8n base-pair sequence of promoter is able to produce cancer cells, for example, 8-bp, 16-bp, 32-bp …. It will provide clue about the origin of cancers. The evolutiono the living organisms starts with mutant of the prime number system to another new one which may be produced a new species to raise up seed and its structure tended to stabilize in givern enivirement.

Abstract
In a previous paper we have given a reasonable description of the total number of constituents (eletons and anti-eletons) in Santilli’s structure model of hadrons. In this paper we shall extend these results to include decays of unstable hadrons. We shall continue to use the theory of stable and unstable groups with particular reference to Euler’s function.
