Nicaragua: Ida Causes No Victims

MANAGUA  - Hurricane Ida cut through Nicaragua without causing any human casualty, the Civil Defense (CD), the National System for Prevention and Attention and the local media highlight today.

After an evaluation of the passage of Ida on the south and north of Nicaragua, CD chief Brigadier General Mario Perez Cassar confirmed that no human casualty was reported and the greatest damage the hurricane inflicted was in houses and farms.

TV channel 4 showed the impact on roofs by the strong winds and the floods caused by torrential rains. Nearly 560 houses were damaged by the tropical storm.

A total of 10,000 people were left homeless in 40 communities and the media reported that Russia donated 23 tons of medications to help the affected people.

Ida is still gatting organization with maximum winds of 47 miles an hour. At 06:00 local time Saturday, its center was estimated at 400 miles southeast from Cozumel, Mexico, moving northeastward at 7 miles an hour.
