The number of foreign cruise ships visiting China in 2010 is expected to number around 209, with about 20 temporary entries and long-term operated ships, said a senior official from China’s government in Tianjian on Aug. 1.

Song Dexing, the director of the Shipping Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, said yesterday that the number of foreign cruises to China increased year by year and more international cruise companies entered in China to capture the market in recent years because of the rapid advances of the domestic cruise transportation industry. Also, colossal consumption potential has been released by China's economic development.

Song said the Chinese government is sparing no efforts to promote and regulate the development of cruise transportation.

Song also said the Ministry of Transport is rectifying related regulations to allow approved foreign cruise companies to set up wholly-owned institutions in China to operate ancillary services, including issuing tickets and soliciting passengers.
