Description:
Perl and ActivePerl versions 5.8.3 and earlier running on Microsoft Windows platforms are vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the win32_stat function. By creating a file with a long filename that ends in a back-slash (\) character, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.
Platforms Affected:
ActiveState: ActivePerl 5.8.3 and earlier Larry Wall: Perl 5.8.3 and earlier Microsoft Corporation: Windows Any version
Remedy:
Download the latest version of Perl (5.8.4 or later), available from the ActiveState Web site. See References.
