Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's latest visit to India was of great importance to the further development of bilateral ties, Indian officials say.

During Wen's three-day trip that ended Friday, the two sides carried out meetings and talks in an atmosphere full of affinity, trust and understanding, The Hindu daily quoted Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao as saying.

Wen's visit deepened mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, Rao told the newspaper, adding that the stances of both governments on enhancing bilateral ties were fully conveyed in their joint communique and other official documents.

Five years after Wen proposed to establish the China-India strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity during his last India trip in 2005, bilateral ties have witnessed remarkable progress, and the increasing political mutual trust between leaders of the two countries has been substantially contributive, Rao said.

An unnamed senior Indian official also told the daily that the very visit was a significant event to bilateral ties, and that Wen's genuine remarks to local representatives and the Indian Council of World Affairs were impressive.

India-China ties are among the most important bilateral relationships in the world, and have been moving forward steadily and fruitfully, the official added.
