Oct 25 marks the 60th anniversary of the Korea War, and for commemorating the Chinese People Volunteers (CPV) who were killed in action on the soil of N Korea while fighting with North Korean army to resist the US aggression six decades ago.

On the very day, North Korea also held a high-profile ceremony to pay tribute to the martyrs of both N Korea and China. Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, led a grand Chinese delegation of CPV veterans, senior officers and military artists attending the series of events staged in the country to mark the 60th anniversary of the CPV's Oct. 25, 1950 entry into the Korean front, a historic symbol of the blood-forged bilateral friendship.

The West, however, get wary of and feel perturbed about the freshly fueled China-N Korea friendship, especially at the time when geopolitics drives the China-US détente, the diplomatic spats chills China-Japan ties. It could do the same between Pyongyang Vs Washington and Tokyo, as the relations between North Korea and the U.S., alongside its allies Japan and South Korea, never particularly warm, but have truly frosted over in the wake of the Cheonan incident. In conjunction with Seoul, Washington has ramped up military exercises in the region, which irritates Pyongyang who takes the drills at its door provocative moves targeting it.

The Six-Party talks have come to a halt and it will take time and more efforts to pull the concerned parties, in particular N Korea, to sit at the negotiating table.

In such a backdrop, the international observers think the rekindled China-N Korea friendship will exert a subtle influence on the regional situation.
