Three newborns burst out crying one after another in a maternity ward at the Mother and Children Health Hospital in Shunde District, Guangdong Province on Oct. 21. Miss Ouyang successfully gave birth to the three newborns that look exactly alike.

As the triplets are from one ovum, doctors called them "monozygotic triplets" and the birth of monozygotic triplets happens only once out of 200 million births. The lucky mother is 22 years old and hails from Xingtan Town of Shunde District.

Accompanied by doctors, Ouyang was sent into the operation room to have a caesarean operation at 11 a.m. on Oct. 21. Thirty minutes later, she successfully gave birth to three baby boys weighing nearly 2.3 kilograms, nearly 2.2 kilograms and 1.8 kilograms, respectively. The shape of the three baby boys is very rotund and their appearances are also very alike. Currently, both the mother and the babies are in good health.

Lin Bing, chief of the maternity department who delivered the "monozygotic triplets" brothers, said that as the technology of artificial insemination continues to develop, twins, triplets and quadruplets have become more and more common. However, this pregnant woman did not accept any assisted pregnancy technology and was pregnant with the monozygotic triplets naturally. This happens only once out of 200 million births.
