据《每日邮报》报道，令气象学家困扰已久的“穿洞云”奇观现在有了合理的解释，美国科学家经研究发现，原来这些穿洞云上的圆洞是飞机穿过高空云层时形成的，在此过程中还会产生降雪。

美国气象研究中心的科学家用观测飞机拍摄的视频显示，一组高积云上的圆洞下方产生了2英寸的降雪。研究人员通过查阅附近机场的航班记录得出结论，这个穿洞云奇景是一小时前起飞的两架商务飞机造成的。

研究表明，某些特定高度的高空云层中包含了冰晶体和低于摄氏0度却仍处于液态的过冷水滴。飞机穿过这样的云层时会使过冷水滴迅速冷却下落变成雪花，在云层中形成一个圆洞。科研人员目前已经把多次降雪和附近飞过的航班联系起来。
